Pricing Q&A

How does the free 30-day evaluation work?

We'll set up a fully-featured Studio Edition account for you to use at no cost. During your trial you will have full access to our support team. They will help you get setup, answer any questions you have, and provide general help in any way they can. So you'll get to truly 'kick the tires' of both the application and our top-notch support team. If you like what you see, when your 30-day trial is over you can signup using your credit card and continue without any interruption. There is no obligation whatsoever.

How are the monthly charges calculated?

Pricing is calculated by the number of active user accounts. You can easily activate and deactivate user accounts from within the Shotgun application to control monthly expenses.

Can we mix user accounts from different Editions?

No, all seats must be from the same Edition. That is the assumption we made when calculating the cost for each Edition.

How is payment handled?

All payments are handled via credit card each month. We're currently accepting Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. If you have special payment requests, contact accounts@shotgunsoftware.com to discuss options.

What edition is used for the 30-day free eval?

We're currently providing the Studio edition for all free evals. It is unlocked and unlimited, so you can access the API and all features while kicking the tires to see if Shotgun provides value for your studio.

Can we change Editions?

Sure. You can upgrade or downgrade any time from your online billing center.

Can we cancel our account any time?

Can we install the software locally on our own servers?

Sure. Many of our large studio clients do this, but it requires more time and effort on our part for installation, support, and upgrades, so we restrict this option for the top two editions and a minimum of 30 user accounts with 6 months payment in advance.

Can we eval on an internal server?

We'd prefer you tested on our hosted server, since it is much faster to setup, and easier for us to support. There's less red tape to get through, and we can move your data internally at any time. However, if it is important for you to test internally, send us an email and we'll work it out.

Can we start with a Shotgun hosted account and then move to an internally installed account?

Absolutely. Many clients opt to start on our hosted service to avoid the initial expense of the internal hardware. If you decide to host internally, we'll work with you to migrate all your data from your hosted site to your internal server.

How often are updates released?

We're moving really fast and have been releasing feature updates every 8 weeks or so and patch releases every weekend. View our release notes here.

Can we request our server to be updated on a specific day and time?

We provide custom scheduled updates for the Partner edition for hosted accounts and for all locally installed accounts. Our deploy team will work with you to schedule a day and time for the update.
